In his linguistically critical poems, the Indonesian lyricist Afrizal Malna explores the complicated relationship between language, bodies and space. He broaches critical aspects of urban life in Indonesia with humour and provocative word structures. In his “visual grammar of things”, he juxtaposes different everyday objects. In 2009, his poetry collection “Teman-Temanku dari Atap Bahasa” (“My friends from the Roof of Language”) was nominated best literary work of the year by the renowned Indonesian news magazine TEMPO. Malna’s poems will be presented in Indonesian and German.
