Naomi Srikandi

Naomi Srikandi is a Yogyakarta based writer and theater maker whose works include writings and performances using aesthetics as a framework for investigating the questions how every day life images, sounds, languages as such retroact to politics. She studied Social and Political Sciences in Gadjah Mada University and underwent artist-in-residence programs hosted by DasArts Master School of Theater, Amsterdam and Hooyong Performing Arts Centre, Wonju. In 1994-2016 she was a core member of a 2013 Prince Claus laureate, Teater Garasi, where she also served as associate artistic director. She performed in international festivals such as Singapore Insomnia 48 and Berlin In Transit Festival. She was associate director for “100% Yogyakarta”, a collaborative theater work between Rimini Protokoll and Teater Garasi. She achieved the women artists grant EWA Kelola for her works “Medea Media” and “Goyang Penasaran”. “Medea Media” was short-listed and presented in the Women Playwrights International Conference, Stockholm, its bilingual Indonesian-English text-for-performance will be published this year. “Goyang Penasaran” was presented in Salihara Festival, the play was published by Kepustakaan Populer Gramedia, Jakarta (2012). Her other play “Perbuatan Serong” was published by Omah Sore and Indonesia Playwrights Forum, Yogyakarta (2011). She currently works on a novel about women farmers living in the foothills of the Kendeng mountain range in Java.
